One of the most common questions asked of us in this technological age of ours is why our Vancouver locations do not have complimentary wi-fi signals for customers to use.
Since the coffee house was first invented back when coffee originally came to Europe, it has been a place where people meet to share ideas, to catch up with friends, or to simply relax with a good book. The coffee house is an animated place where people meet and greet. We strive to make our locations places which facilitate this activity, and I hope you'll agree we've done a good job. Aside from our product itself, the locations are what we feel sets us apart from the competition in the best possible way.
A wireless internet signal is an excellent way for a coffee shop to bring in new business. However, there have been times when we have walked into coffee shops that offer this service only to be greeted with the dreaded silence of a library. Some clicking, and perhaps the shuffling of a chair or the occasional cough are the only sounds. When the grinder or the steam wand on the espresso bar are the only sounds one hears, we feel this is the polar opposite of the atmosphere we are striving to encourage. We want your faces to reflect the glow of other faces, rather than the glow of the screen. Is it idealistic? Sure it is. We're proud of our idealism, and we're proud of our coffee. We know a lot of people love our coffee enough to keep coming back, and we hope the quality of our product is the first priority rather than the afterthought to a technological courtesy.
Please come visit. Bring a friend, or a book. You can even bring a smartphone if you would like to check your email as you enjoy your coffee.
Thanks,
The Team at JJ Bean
