UPDATE: This was a huge success thanks to the incredible generosity of all our customers, raising a total of $16,000 to send to Haiti. We are always amazed at the response we get for our disaster relief fundraisers. Thank you so much to all who contributed.
On Friday November 18, in Vancouver and Toronto, our staff are donating all tips to Haiti’s Hurricane Matthew disaster relief.
JJ Bean will match the amount raised up to $5,000. We’ve partnered with Speroway to match up to $10,000 in donations. The $20,000 total will go toward rebuilding and repairing roofs on affected homes and schools.
Hurricane Matthew violently struck Haiti last month, resulting in the country’s largest humanitarian emergency since the 2010 earthquake. It caused extensive flooding and mudslides, damage to road infrastructure and buildings, as well as electricity and water shortages. Of the 1.4 million people who need humanitarian assistance, approximately 546,000 are women of reproductive age and more than 40% are children. — UN Report
