Production Baker/Cook, Full-Time – Bartley

About the position

The JJ Bean Coffee Roaster production kitchen at JJ Bean Bartley serves our Toronto locations. We make all of our own food in house and are looking to hire a new team member to assist in the commissary. We are looking for someone to start immediately.

The position will be full time and shifts run between 6am – 2pm, Sunday to Friday.

The position will involve working as a member of a small team in a factory production environment. Our products are handmade using artisanal techniques. Different daily tasks include: making sandwiches and wraps daily from scratch, mixing and scaling ingredients for muffins, cookies and other baked goods, making soups and sauces, making croissants and puff pastry (lamination), following recipes, helping with stock rotation, placing orders, making deliveries, and cleaning.

This is a challenging but rewarding position for a person who is interested in learning, developing their skills, and advancing within a growing company. The suitable candidate will need to learn our recipes and execute them in an efficient and diligent manner, able to operate the kitchen by themselves.


– Basic knowledge of mixing methods (large batches of muffin batters, dough)
– Baking abilities including scooping cookies and shaping various pastries
– Basic kitchen knowledge
– Quick learner, able to pick up information by observing
– Physically fit, able to lift up to 25kg, able to work on your feet for +8 hours
– Able to communicate and read English
– Food Safe Level 1, understand FIFO, kitchen safety, etc.
– A willingness to learn and take direction
– Able to communicate and read English
– Reliable transportation (we are near bus routes and have car parking available)
– Coachable, team player, have a positive attitude, be well organized, take pride in your work, and be reliable

– graduated or currently attending baking and pastry school or culinary school
– previous production bakery experience (ex. large batch production, working with 60qt Hobart mixer)
– familiar with vegan and gluten-free baking
– likes a busy, fast paced environment
– Food Safe level 1
– Occupational First Aid level 1
– Drivers license, with a good driving record, comfortable driving a large van
