George Waiguru made his career selling diary to the highest-quality brands in Kenya, and then did the same with Avocados. As a former civil servant, George saw coffee as a crop to avoid, so was frustrated when his wife Felista planted a full 14 acres in 2019. She was assisted by farm manager Lusweti, and later, by their son Alex when returned from studies. Still George resisted, and was ‘close to tearing the trees up by their roots’ until he came across the direct export option in 2024. Now that he has an alternative to the auction George has joined Felista, Lusweti and Alex–committing to expand by an additional 20 acres, and to grow ‘the best coffee in Kitale’.
